FinSoft Frequently Asked Questions

What about support?

This is actually a great question to ask. We offer outstanding training from the start. All systems have built in Help" files that are context sensitive to the screen that you are working on. We provide phone and email support. We patch as fast as is possible when things are off. Support comes form the same people that write the software and that own the company. .

Summarize the FinSoft focus as a software company

FinSoft is an owner-focused ABL software provider that specializes in due diligence software for audit, ineligible collateral calculations, electronic reporting and operations. While loan monitoring is essential and required by the OCC for banks, it is not the whole story. Lenders want to "lend money and get paid back." But, lenders don't give the money away. Strong underwriting and detailed monitoring requires focused tools to spot issues, reduce time and move the automation along. FinSoft is fanatically focused on details that prevent losses and speed the due diligence underwriting process along.

Who owns FinSoft?

FinSoft is an owned by Joe Caplan, CPA and other partners that specialize in Asset Based Lending Software. Joe spent 19 year doing field exams and supporting operations for commercial lenders. He also started Clear Choice Seminars (d.b.a. ABLTrain.com) and is the author of the industry guide ABL-Help.  Joe's ABL career  began in 1985 and FinSoft started in 1996.

AssetReader-WEB

What is different from AssetReader to AssetReader-Web?

AssetReader is a desktop application.  Some users wanted additional features and a web supported product.  The core difference is not just desktop vs. browser-based software, it is that AssetReader-Web allows the borrower to upload the data for the borrowing base and other reports all at once AND with lender permissions, the borrower can calculate ineligible collateral and adjustments.  Because te borrower and lender are using the same calculations, the rework from the lender is greatly reduced.

Are the setups and files different between AssetReader and AssetReader-Web?

Both products use the same file.  This is great news for our existing users that have setup hundreds of files.  The desktop can read and write to the same files as the web version and there is no need to transfer between files, it is one file for both.

Can I see a comparison of the versions?

Yes — We have that on this website in a Compare Versions page.

Can we limit what the Borrower can see and do?

Yes     The system allows setups for the borrower to be upload only or the settings, input screens and reports can be enabled or disabled on a per screen and per report basis.  Options include "Read/Write", Read Only, Off.  This allows for flexibility for specific user types such as Loan Processors, Account Officers / Account Executives, Borrows, etc.

Is this Hosted or Hybrid Hosted?

We've got options.  We can host the website and data or provider a specific server for just your entity.  We can provide the entire site and API service for full in-house hosting.

Can Borrowers run AssetReader-Web without the Lender providing it?

Yes     We have a fully hosted version that allows a borrower to run the AssetReader-Web system.  In general, FinSoft will do the setup of the mapping for the files (for a fee) and then the borrower can run the reports in seconds at any time (daily, per borrowing, weekly, monthly, etc.).  The Borrower can then make reports available to a lender by creating an Excel workbook.  Alternatively, the lender can pay a small fee to access the data directly form the same system.

Data Processing

What setup services do you do?

In most cases, lenders and borrowers will need the initial setup to be created for the imports into AssetReader.  As staffs grow, lenders do more in-house.  As people leave positions in the monitoring groups or audit, they sometimes need additional assistance to get setups done.  Lenders that have hundreds of files setup don't need much support for ongoing files, it is the new ones where we provide most of the support.

What about turn-around time?

We've been downloading data since 1984 and our expertise is as strong as it is going to get.  We typically process new setups in an hour or less for most reports.  Sure some are difficult, that's what software support helps with, but because we have seen so many variations since 1984, it takes a lot to stump us and our turn-around times are quite fast.

Any support for field exam setups?

First, the examiners tend to be well-versed in Excel and they often read-in sales, cash, GL journals, inventory and other reports with success, pivot table work, etc.  The agngs tend to be the tough ones to get normalized into nice columns with customer and vendor names on every row.  Joining inventory to a cost of sales or usage or date report is often problematic.  Our extensive training with AssetReader usually lets those users bring the data into AssetReader.  But we do provide support for processing files for field examinations and it tends to be the AR, AP, accrual, inventory and inventory usage reports that we are asked to process.
